You may be eligible to attend Butte County Traffic School if you meet the following requirements:

  • You had a valid driver’s license at the time you were cited.
  • You have NOT attended Butte County Traffic School on a prior citation within 18 months + 1 day
    of your present citation.
  • You were not cited for speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour. Traffic school for speeding
    in excess of 25 miles per hour over the posted speed limit must be ordered by the Judge.
  • Your citation is for a moving violation and does not require a mandatory appearance.
  • You do not have a Failure to Appear hold on license or Civil Assessment.
  • The Failure to Appear charge must be adjudicated or paid in full before you can
    attend Traffic School.
  • Violation does not involve alcohol, drug use or possession.
  • NOTE: Effective as of July 1, 2011, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) shall hold only one traffic school conviction within an 18-month period confidential. This also applies to non-point count violations, which are not used to determine negligent operator by DMV. If you have attended another traffic school within eighteen months, DMV will not hold your attendance on this citation confidential.
  • Your traffic citation will be continued for ninety (90) days from date of payment to allow attendance and completion of the Traffic School Program.

Use the Butte County Payment Portal to:

  • To pay and close your traffic and non-traffic citations, to sign up and pay for Traffic School (if eligible), or to post bail and contest your citation.
  • To pay monthly installment payments on established payment plans on most case types.
  • To pay various outstanding invoices including, but not limited to, sanctions, fax filing fees, continuance fees, filing fees, jury trial fees, investigation fees and returned check charges.

Requesting Traffic School in Butte County:

  1. If you are eligible to attend Traffic School and wish to do so you must first request to attend Traffic School. You can make this request in person or mail.
  2. Pay a non-refundable Traffic School Administration Fee equal to the citation bail amount PLUS an additional $52.00, to the court.
  3. If paying by check or money order, make your check payable to “Butte County Superior Court” and include your citation or case number on your payment.
  4. Enroll with iDrive EZ Traffic School within two weeks, pay the enrollment fee and register for the class.
  5. Successfully complete the course of instruction.
  6. iDrive EZ Traffic School will complete the “Certificate of Completion”
  7. When you have completed the course, we will issue you a receipt and electronically file the Certificate of Completion to the court.
  8. Allow at least 7-10 days for the Court and DMV to process your completion certificate.

All of the above requirements must be completed before ninety (60) days. Do not wait to sign up for traffic school to ensure you complete the course and return the “Certificate of Completion” to the Court by the 60th day.

Failure to Complete 

Failure to submit proof of completion by the due date will result in your bail being forfeited, the violation being reported to DMV as a conviction, and a point count on your driving record.
